A Situation Analysis of Education in Fifteen Chiefdoms in the Northern Region of Sierra Leone
Project Overview
This project examined the educational landscape in 15 chiefdoms in Sierra Leone’s Northern Region, with a specific focus on the challenges facing girl child education. It highlighted key issues including enrolment trends, gender parity, teacher capacity, school infrastructure, and socio-cultural factors impeding girls’ access to education.
Key findings included disproportionately low female teacher representation, barriers such as early marriage, teenage pregnancy, and financial constraints, and a significant gender gap in enrolment and transition rates — especially at the junior secondary level. The study provided critical baseline data to guide the Centre for Democracy and Human Rights (CDHR) in shaping future educational interventions.
