Research and Baseline Study on the Situation and Relevance of Informal Economy Unions in Sierra Leone

Project Overview

This study, conducted for the Sierra Leone Labour Congress (SLLC), investigated the challenges and opportunities within Sierra Leone’s informal economy, focusing on informal economy unions (IEUs) and their impact on the welfare of workers, particularly women and youth. The research provided insights into living conditions of informal workers, barriers to union participation, and challenges specific to child and migrant workers.

The study included an analysis of informal economy unions, an assessment of barriers to union participation, and recommendations for improving worker welfare, enhancing union participation, and fostering capacity-building initiatives for sustainable development. A baseline monitoring framework was also developed to measure the progress of interventions over time.
